Ponnani Block Panchayat, established in 1967, is located in Ponnani Taluk of Malappuram district and comprises the four Grama Panchayats of Vattamkulam, Edappal, Kalady, and Tavanur. Covering an area of 85.50 sq. km with 14 divisions, it is bordered by the Bharathapuzha River in the north, Palakkad district in the east, Perumpadappu Block in the south, and Ponnani Municipality in the west.The region features diverse geographical characteristics, ranging from flat coastal plains in the west to moderately elevated areas (15–20 metres above sea level) in the east.
